When it comes to tattoo healing, it could be a pretty interesting and very scary process, especially if this is your first tattoo. If you are a rookie and nervous tattoo customer how you may already know, how to take care of a new tattoo?

80% of how your new tattoo will look on how well you heal it.

And what people don’t know is that when your tattoo is healing, your skin is going through two different stages to repair itself. For each one of those tattoo healing stages, you need to do specific things to be sure that the tattoo heals up nicely, is bright, and looks perfect for ages.

Let’s get on to the first stage of tattoo healing.

Once your tattoo done, it is considered an open wound. We will clean off that tattooed area, The key to be sure that skin airs out for a little bit before doing anything else and then wrap it up with some clean plastic wrap before leaving the shop.

Now, once you get home, I always recommend removing that plastic wrap allowing your tattoo to air out for a little bit from your skin. Your skin had so much trauma from the needles and everything that happened during that tattoo session.

Taking care of the blood

Be sure you’re washing it at least three times a day to remove any harmful bacteria that can cause you or your tattoo harm. When you are washing that tattooed area, be sure to remove all the blood plasma and ink that is left on that tattoo. Be sure to use warm water but not too hot.

Now, once that tattooed area is nice and clean, you must apply healing ointment to that tattooed area,  be sure you’re putting a thin layer across to tattooed area. You don’t want to do too much and clog those parts because that could cause all types of problems that you do not want to go through.

I do want to add with the first stage of the tattoo healing process you might witness swelling of the tattoo and redness. But this is nothing to be alarmed about, and it should get better as the days go on. Now, depending on the size and location of that tattoo on your body, the first stage of the healing can last anywhere between one to six days. But again, everybody is different. So don’t be alarmed if your tattoo is healing slower.

After that six-day mark, that tattooed area, the skin starts to tighten up, preparing itself to go into the second stage of the healing process. And the second stage of the tattoo healing process is the dreaded peeling stage.

The reason why new tattoos peel is because of the top layer of skin is dying off. Why that skin dies?, it is because of all the trauma during that tattooing session. During the second stage of healing, that dead skin will peel off, but underneath, new skin cells will start to form due to your tattoo peeling.

Oh, and the itching.

Do not scratch, pick, or peel those skin flakes because your tattoo will look horrible, and nobody wants that. Just wash your tattoo once a day, and put the cream on. The tattoo healing process, the peeling, continues at least two week and so on and no body exactly will know how long does a tattoo take to heal totally.
